Game Design
Have you ever asked yourself What is a game? or even how to make one.
Well there are a load of answers when it comes to defining and making a game. Some people would say a game is an activity involving player decisions, a step away from reality or they would even say games are a form of art. Well by reading the article above, you will get a better understanding on what a game actually is and also you will realize that you can literally make a playable game in minutes just by using your imagination and being creative.
In the second article The Organic Nature of Game Ideation it tells us that brainstorming is very important when it comes to making a game, but not all creative ideas come from brainstorming. Finnish game professionals were interviewed about their design processes and most of the professionals got their ideas from playing other games, reading or even watching movies and tv shows.
In the third article it gives us four basic methods for generating ideas and they are:
- Concentration
- Brainstorming
- Scamper
- The Ramsey Method
What up Justin, we both know who's the real one ;) Anyway your blog here was an interesting read, went over the many aspects of coming up with game ideas which also showed that brainstorming isn't everything and that sometimes ideas do come from other things such as taking walks, watching movies and even playing other games. The articles you linked also helped me out with different ways of thinking!
ReplyDeleteHi Justin! I really like how you simplified the articles, I probably took way too long simplifying my blog. I liked the part when you said "you can literally make a game in minutes by using your imagination and being creative" I completely agree, I feel like you can create anything if you research enough about it. People make their dream games all the time and there are no limits whatsoever!
ReplyDeleteHi Justin! Each paper was quite packed with information you summarised them quite well, I liked how you used bullet points to break down the third paper. I found these articles to be so long and took me forever to break them down so that I could understand them. You did well though and good luck on future readings!! Best of luck this semester!
